Empowering the Next Generation: Girl Engineer Sparks STEM Passion with Stop Motion Animation Workshop
In an effort to bridge the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), our team at Girl Engineer recently hosted an engaging Stop Motion Animation workshop at Mganthira Primary School. Despite limited resources, the hands-on session drew 20 enthusiastic young girls from various classes, all eager to explore the fundamentals of animation and discover how creativity intersects with technology.
Hands-On Learning and Mentorship
The workshop was led by a passionate team of young volunteers dedicated to mentoring the next wave of female innovators. During the session, the students were introduced to core technical concepts through interactive projects. The girls learned how to construct a simple moving car model and animate their names using everyday buttons. Following the physical creation phase, they were introduced to software tools used to edit and finalize their digital animation projects.
Building an Inclusive Future
Girl Engineer remains steadfast in its mission to tackle the underrepresentation of women in technical fields by providing young girls with early access to education, mentorship, and practical resources. We believe that equipping girls with these foundational tools is vital to building a more equitable and inclusive future for everyone.
The initiative at Mganthira Primary School proved to be a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and excited. Several of the students shared a newfound interest in pursuing future careers in engineering and digital animation. By offering early exposure to STEM alongside relatable mentors, we hope to inspire the next generation of female engineers, scientists, and innovators.
Looking Ahead
Building on this momentum, Girl Engineer plans to continue conducting workshops and events across other primary schools in the Northern Region of Malawi. By working together, we aim to reach as many girls as possible and cultivate a more diverse and inclusive future for our communities.
